The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India consisting of 571 islands, of which 37 are inhabited, at the junction of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.[3] The territory is about 150 km (93 mi) north of Aceh in Indonesia and separated from Thailand and Myanmar by the Andaman Sea. It comprises two island groups, the Andaman Islands (partly) and the Nicobar Islands The territory's capital is the city of Port Blair. The total land area of the islands is approximately 8,249 km2 (3,185 sq mi). The territory is divided into three districts: the Nicobar District with Car Nicobar as its capital, the South Andaman district with Port Blair as its capital, and the North and Middle Andaman district with Mayabunder as its capital.
The Veer Savarkar Airport, an International Airport is located in the capital town of Port Blair, the gateway to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Port Blair, is connected with Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore and New Delhi by air. Air India, Indigo, Vistara, Go First & Spice Jet Airlines operate regular flights. Foreign chartered flights are also permitted to land at Port Blair subject to the fulfilment of guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Port Blair being the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the entry point for all tourism related activities. Tourists first have to arrive to Port Blair before progressing on to any other islands in Andaman. At Port Blair, the major tourist places to visit are the Cellular Jail, Corbyns Cove Beach, North Bay Island, Ross Island renamed to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, Chidiatapu, Wandoor and other museums that are present within city limits.
Havelock
Havelock Island was previously named after a British general, Sir Henry Havelock, who served in India.[5] On 30 December 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Havelock Island would be renamed as Swaraj Dweep.
Radhanagar Beach
Radhanagar Beach on the western coast, also known as Number 7 Beach, is one of the most popular beaches on Swaraj and was named “Best Beach in Asia” by Time in 2004.[11] Radhanagar beach also bagged the prestigious blue flag certification in 2020.[12] A Blue Flag beach is an eco-tourism model endeavouring to provide the tourists or beachgoers clean and hygienic bathing water, facilities, safe and healthy environment. Other notable beaches include Elephant Beach on the northwest coast and Vijay Nagar Beach (No. 5), Beach No. 3 and Beach No. 1 on the east coast. Kalapathar is another famous beach.
Elephant Beach
To reach Elephant beach one needs to take a boat from Swaraj Dweep jetty. Another way to reach Elephant beach is via trekking. The major 3 beaches at Swaraj Dweep are namely Radhanagar Beach, Elephant Beach and Kalapathar beach.
Neil Island
Neil, with its very relaxed vibe and long, deserted beaches is a place to chill out after the “bustle” of Havelock Island. Neil is quite small compared to Havelock. Its widest part is about 5 km in length. You can walk the whole island in about an hour or two.

Cellular jail
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pānī (lit. ’Black Water’), was a British colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The prison was used by the colonial government of India for the purpose of exiling criminals and political prisoners.
Cellular Jail was declared a National Memorial by the then Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai on 11 February 1979.
Light and Sound show is organized in evening which memorizes the sacrifice of Indian Fighters .
Ross Island
Ross Island, officially known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, is an island of the Andaman Islands. Ross island was named after marine surveyor, Daniel Ross. In December 2018, it was renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island as a tribute to India’s most prominent freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose .
North Bay Island
North Bay Island at Andaman Island is also known as Coral Islands due the major underwater water-sports activities done in this island. North Bay Island is popular and perfect destination for Water Sports like Snorkelling, Scuba Diving, Sea Walking, Speed boat rides, Jet Ski rides, etc at Port Blair.
North Andman
The island belongs to the Great Andaman group and lies north of Middle Andaman Island. many small island groups surround its beaches. The island’s main town is Diglipur.
Viper Island
This small island was the site of the jail where the British used to imprison convicts and political prisoners Since this jail couldn’t accommodate many inmates, the cellular jail was constructed by the British Government.
Chidiya Tapu
It is famous for bird watching, sunset view, panoramic scenic beauties, and many colours of oceanic view. Andaman’s Bird Island or Chidiya tapu is a carpet of rich mangrove forests that host numerous species of birds. A walk along the scenic beaches will give you that picture-perfect view of the sunset.
Jolly Buoy Island
Jolly buoy Island is very famous for underwater corals and the pristine clear beach. This place is one hour journey from Wandoor beach. Snorkeling and scuba diving are available here. To reach Jolly buoy island people have to come to Wandoor beach.
Mount Harriet
Mount Harriet, 55 Kms by road/ 15 Kms by ferry and trek from Port Blair was the summer headquarters of the Chief Commissioner during British Raj. This place is ideal for fascinating overview of the nearby islands and the seaOn 17th October 2021, Mount Harriet was officially renamed as Mount Manipur by the Union Government of India, as a tribute to the freedom fighters of Manipur.
Middle Andaman
Middle Andaman Island is an island of the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the North and Middle Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The island belongs to the Great Andaman Chain and is located 73 km (45 mi) north from Port Blair. It is the central island of the Great Andaman archipelago of India, Middle Andaman is separated from North Andaman Island by Austen Strait, and from Baratang Island at the south by Homfray’s Strait.
